No problems since. I learned another lesson.

WOW!!!! Took all 3 drives out. Damn you really are fortunate that all 3 bellows held. Glad to hear no one was hurt.

I would think side load would be the cause of the race stuff,

but hitting something hard enought to brake housing and ring would have to shock the sh!t out of the transom, stress cracks

Strip, no doubt it would be a shock to the transom but there were no visible cracks or I would have had them fixed. It was an insurance deal anyway so they would have picked up the tab. I was back on the water the next weekend after DoubleR snapped on 3 new drives.

Ive been lucky ,I have never hit any thing that caused any damage, knock on woodI guess the trim rams absorb some of the hit, still nasty looking

its the bellhousing [ hat ] that's the weakest link. As it can be seen in the picture the broken area isn't much to carry all that weight hanging on so something got to give. I have Bravo 1X drives with standard gimbal ring that stayed intact. The right trim cylinder rod got bent and got replaced.I also replaced the upper housing [ insurance was involved so I didn't bother welding up a piece ] I was crusing around 40 mph only and got stopped dead in my track striking that log. Boat didn't spun at all. Higher speed and it could have been a bit different , lol.

Small piece [ guide that holds the plastic shims] broke away .
