MTI questions for the dudes that own them
 

I have been looking to replace the current dinghy for the "Mut" and I have a couple questions regarding rigging an MTI.

First are the water pick ups for the engines underneath the rigs. like here on the Speed Racer super Cat lite?

And like here on G. Catstelet's Super Cat Light that has sold to Japan?


Anyone has a clue who makes these pick ups or should I just call Randy S.?

And what kind of props are you running, ratios, drives with what boat and power?

From my limited research I have:

NXT1 / 1.35:1 ratio drives / 38"-pitch five-blade models from Hering. 128 mph with Merc 700SCI from here

Mercury Racing HP1075SCi engines linked to No. 6 dry-sump drives with Hering 16 1/2" - 38"-pitch five-blade propellers. With that propulsion package, the catamaran reached 153.8 mph

Lets see if I can get these right ......
1) Yes...the water pickups are in the bottom as your pics show....not sure who manufactures but Mike in parts at MTI will be able to help with this.
2) Props are huge....the right prop changed the ride of mine sooo much its really hard to imagine that small of a piece of metal compared to the overall size of the boat can do so much. Each boat and power combo will vary as well as drive types (mine are BPM shafts) Randy can set it up for your specific wants both speed and ride.

The pickups are the same. The ratios are either 1:24 or 1:35. I am actually going to split the difference and go with a 1:29.

Those pick-ups are on most (maybe all) MTIs. Others use similar teardrop pickup in the bottom, but just a single tube, no plate.

Not all of them have pick ups like that. I think we got these adjustable ones from Teague.

I run Speed Racer -44

BPM Drives and pick ups are as you showed on the race boat. They are adjustable from inside the boat for depth.

Props, as earlier stated, vary by each rig. I am running 1,200 Ron Potter motors and using Mercury 16.5 X39 CNC. Also have set of Herrings but found after 6 prop changes the CNC's were the best for top end and mid range.

Previous power in the boat were 1,150 Sterlngs and they used 16.5 X36 Herring. Significantly too small for the 1,200's
