Default how do you handle payment / rec. goods

I was wondering what the norm is for the board members who purchase parts, etc. and how the payment is handled with the seller.

Another words if I want to purchase used exhaust from a seller who is liting from the board what is the best way to handle the payment. He is over 2000 mi away...

Do you wire the money or send a check and then when the money is cleared to the seller he sends the exhaust and I hope like hell ALL IS GOOD. I spoke with the seller and he seemed very trustworthy. But what do you do if you get the merchandise and it is totally not what you expected. I would just like to find a mutual beneficial means of handling this when it occurs.

I take paypal for stuff and then send the item. I have never sold anything for more than few hundred dollars though. I have also never purchased anything for over a few hundred dollars from any individual.

Make sure the seller is well known on the board with a good reputation. There are plenty of people who just list stuff in the classifieds and are not even on the board.

Past few parts i sold, I just got their Name, address, #'s and sent it. Told them if they didn't like it to ship it back, if they liked it to send check. Haven't had one return ever, but then again I know the parts are in very good to new condition.

Now I am more trusting than most

a used exhaust needs to be pressure tested. It might be worth paying extra to buy an exhaust locally that you can lay your eyes on first.

used exhausts seem to me to be the number one cause of disagreements over used parts

Also do a search on here for the persons name selling the parts. You can tell allot about a person by there comments and posts online. See how they handle themselves and what peoples opinions are on past dealing with them. Beware there are some people on here not to be trusted. Buyer Beware

That is good way to find out who you are dealing with. I have bought and sold a number of parts on OSO and Scream & Fly. Some very high dollar. Only one time did some parts that I sold come back. Bizarre story and they even came back damaged by a well known v-hull boat manufacturer that will remain nameless. I refunded less the damage.
So even the Sellers can get screwed.
