496 - Cast stroker cranks?????
Are there any cast stroker cranks out on the water. I was looking at an upgrade for an individual and the subject came up regarding as to whether they would hold up or not. If so what brand is the best deal. Considering the RPM's under 5400 and HP to be no more than 575 HP. These are for 454 CI
Thanks for your input. John |
You need to used forged for that rpm and HP anyway. You can get a complete stroker kit from Ateco for about 2k.

Not sure why you would even think of using a cast crank. You may save a little now but you will spend a lot later. :drink:
I understand completely what you are saying and would more than likely go forged steel however the question still remains - Are there many people out there that have grenaded 496's with cast cranks. That is what I'm really looking for. I've have built many engines most with steel cranks however several with cast cranks as well for others who were on a budget. I have yet to hear of any of them breaking. I noticed there is several cast stoker cranks on the market. Why do they even sell them if there going to break. Or what is there intended use? |
scat sais their cast steel crank is good to 700 hp,but i won,t do it.spend a little more&get the forged crank.:cool-smiley-027:

getrdunn, I have a friend that has a pair of forged 496 stroker cranks used, std. std. I will see if he wants to sell them yet. He also has his cams and valve-train that he used in that motor to make 650 hp.
