23k????? Outrageous.

4200RPM on a blower motor for an hour with no intercooler??? Too much. How much boost at 4200, Ill bet at least 3-4lbs.

3000RPM is the magic number for me. But if you are making boost cruising then you are over propped.

Get it fixed and enjoy the summer

That should not be a problem if the engine was built right. It shouldn't be any hotter after an hour than it is after 2 minutes.

Does it sound like to anyone else that the owner knew there was trouble before it happened?

I'll second that. I bought a used boat sight unseen that had an engine from Eddie Young in it, and it makes my day every time I take it out.

That was kinda what I was thinking! The dealership said that they had it for two years..I know times are tough these days and the marine industry is being hit hard but there had to have been problems that they knew about! Hindsite is 20/20 and that should have been the red flag! It's my bad for not getting the engine looked at I realize that, but buying a boat that didnt have a scratch on it and from what I thought was a trustworthy dealership, I thought I was ok! Obviously not!

What shop is your boat at right now!? I'd run from there. If the guys quoting you those prices, then you really shouldn't have a problem posting which shop it's at.

Do yourself a favor and call Mario at So. Cal Speed & Marine
(in Moorpark, Ca.). Quality service and reasonable rates, with no BS. You will not be disappointed.

He rebuilt my motor a couple seasons ago when I sucked a valve. It was WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELL under 10k out the door.

Had a similar situation 3 years ago. Bought a used 46 cig from Hideaway in Pompano, with 575s. They delivered the boat to Atlanta. They made a point the boat was sold as is. I used it a few hours, and the next weekend, one of head gaskets blew, and filled the oil with water. I called them up, and believe it or not, they said they would take care of it. The salesman, Rob Stanley drove up to Atlanta on Memorial day weekend, picked up the boat. Their service dept jumped on it, and delivered the boat back a couple of weeks later. Didn't charge me, said they felt they had sold me a "clean boat", and felt bad about it. I was impressed. Those also were the hay days of performance boating. I did just have them send my 1075s to mercury for factory refresh on my OL, and one motor was 19k, the other about 22K. I guess I didn't forget the good service from before, and have stuck with them. Too bad more people don't think long-term business.

I would like to put a plug in for team shogren. They sold me a 525 Take Out for alot less than your quote from your builder. It has 35 hrs.out of a "pleasure" boat not a race boat They were very professional, I have not run the engine yet but I will let you guys know that they are fair. I can say nothing but good at this point.

Stu

We shall see shipping is not a big deal, compared to the cost of high speed boating.
