Game, I grew up in St.Joe and do a lot of boating out there. I live near Grand Rapids now. What kind of boat do you have? How long have you lived there? Mark

Shaker Racing in Granger IN. is who I have been using. He has a full machine shop and has been around since the late sixties. He builds a strong motor and is reasonably priced. Dick is the man, give him a call. He can probably use your block as a good foundation for a 600 HP 496". His number is (219)272-0770.

Forgot to mention that the block has a 2-bolt main which hinders upgrading a bit.

Thanks for the overwhelming pm/email response! Didn't know there where so many of you on the lakes out here.

Moved from Troy-other side of the state- a few years back. Started boating 2 yrs ago with the purchase of a 25' Checkmate w/carburated 7.4. Last summer I began to develop an addiction for speed watching TopGun (anyone here know/is him?) jump waves in Lake Michigan. Now after a few weeks perusing these forums I know I need to go fast. Thats my story.

Call Tyler Crockett @ 810-324-2720. He has been in business for approximately 20 years and does excellent work. I know from experience. He is located in Ruby, Michigan. In addition he has a complete dyno facility and he also writes the Stern Drive Tech for Hot Boat magazine. Give him a call, you won't be disappointed. Tell him Jeff and Curt, from South Carolina refered you to him. Good luck.

There's nothing wrong with a 2-bolt main. I've SEEN 2-bolt mains with cast cranks making 475-500hp with no failures and have heard from other boating aquantences of blower engines with 2-bolt mains staying together. Bruce Wolff has a complete engine shop down in Baroda on Lemon Creek Rd who does mostly marine performance upgrades from mild to wild. Baroda is about 10-15 miles south of St.Joe 616-422-1090 Mark

Shaker built a 496" alcohol drag motor using a 2-bolt main block! He uses good ARP studs and uses dowell tubes to hold the caps still. The he align bores the motor to make sure things are straight with the new "located" caps. So far my buddy hasn't had any problems after 100 passes down the 1/4 mi. shifting at 7600 RPM and running 9.70. According to Shaker, a 2-bolt with his inexpensive mods is stronger than a standard 4-bolt. My motor has 4-bolt mains with the dowell tubes.
