There have been a few running around up here over the years, thin, light, relatively fast singles but all of them had real bad osmosis blistering problems, wrotten stringers and just plain terribly faded gelcoat.A friend has a 1989 with a 502mpi in it,he runs about 72mph but has to back way off in anything over 3 footers for fear of breakin his hull again.

Back in the good ol days of performance boating, late 80's I worked for a marina in New Jersey. We were a Cigarette and Switzer dealer. We sold approx 12 or more of the 240 SS with 7.4 L Bravo I packages in them the boat ran approx 70 mph. Very fast for its time. They were manufactured in Illinios. You might be able to contact the marina they may still have some literature with a contact phone number laying around.

Wesold a few Switzers in th early 80's. Good quality, nice performance.Bob and Dave Switzer sold the company in the 70's? and retired. Just don't confuse the later models with the ones that Bob and Dave built. The Switzer wing was so far ahead of it's time and the Shooting Star monohull was the fastest you could buy in the late 60's.For an interesting history that will amaze you go to members.home.net/sbowman1/switzerhstry.html. Hope I did this right.

I had an '88 w/ a 454 mag and the first year bravo. It was a fast little sob for its day. would see 71-72 mph. It has what they called an S bottom design. And you guys are right, it was built in Crystal Lake Ill. Right before they closed the doors they moved to Richmond Ill. The Switzer family now has the molds back again after Dan Koons folded up the business in early 90's.
That was one scary little boat to drive at speed. In turns it would slide something terrible then all of a sudden would catch an outside chine and roll up hard to the out side. I must have put over a 1000 hrs on my boat before I sold. Had it for 8 seasons. It was one of the most fun boats I've ever owned. I could drive the sh*t out of that thing. I would scare the crap out of people.
Switzer was just starting to get into to bigger offshore boats when they went out of businsess. They build 1 30 boat. It was orignally fopr sale at Victor Motor sport in Waukeegan Ill. I heard stories about that boat. It had some terrible electrical problems. Don't know what eventually happened to it.
I spoke with the Switzer family a few years ago to see if they were planning on getting back into building boats again. They've just built a couple of the really small boats...17'... in the last few years but they're not going to get back into it as a business.
There are still some 24' running around the Chain of lakes in Ill and up in Wis. I saw one at the Oshkosh poker run a few years ago.
Still have a warm place in my heart for that boat.
