Why is the bellhousing hose so small compared to Waterpump hose?

Always wondered why the bellhousing hose ID is about 3/4" compared to the waterpump hose at 1 1/4"
Why didnt they run the smaller hose all the way thru?
Im thinking its just to keep more water in the hose at the pump for start up?

I don't know, but you should look at how small the holes are on the botom of the drive??

But at least those probably add up to the small hole size hose.

On a low water pickup or an IMCO the whole is very very small.
