Another one bites the dust
Well guys and gals.... my starboard motor finally bit the dust Saturday when we were out in the bay. HP500 with 385 hours. Motor has always had a slight tick, but good oil pressure and excellent water temps.... but this time she wouldnt rpm over 4100 rpm and after 5 mins of trying a few different things in the bay, I decided to shut it down and double check fuel pressure. When I brought it back to an idle, it lost oil pressure. I shut that engine off, and when I raised the hatch, oil had blown out of the valve cover all over the flame arrestor and the intake of the motor. We added a half quart and fired it back up. It would only hold about 25 psi of pressure at an idle, so I decide to limp it back to the trailer. The only problem is .... we were 5 miles into the bay by now. So I got it up on plane and kept both motors at 3k. About 1 minute into the return trip, she lost rpm and died. I raised the hatch and tried to start it.... and BAM, it was locked up. What a bummer!!
So now for the re-power.... I just want to get it done before the 4th of July. This morning we pulled both motors out and tore them down to simply long blocks. I am taking them to the machine shop Tuesday morning.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like you knew it was coming at some point. To bad it wasn't at the end of the summer. Good luck with it and if I can do anything to help, feel free to contact me.
