Trim Tab Question - IS THIS NORMAL?

'02 Sunsation 25' Aggressor, Bennett Trim Tabs.

My first boat with trim tabs! Six hours seat time - Alone and Learning!

Question: The 'right' trim switch controls the 'left' tab. The 'Left' trim switch controls the 'right' tab. It seems backwards! Is this normal? Why wouldn't the 'right' trim switch control the 'right' trim tab, and the 'left' switch, control the 'left' tab?

I am new at tabs, and I really need someone to chime in.

Thx!

Tom

Thank you to all of you that responded!

Yes, right-is-right, left-is-left. I will figure out where the wiring problem is.

Thanks again Everyone!

It depends.
As an Engineer, I like everything to make logical sense.

BUT, my Sonic was factory configured as such that if you pressed the fore part of the SB switch down, it would lower the Port tab into the water to LOWER THE SB SIDE of the boat into the water--which ALSO kinda makes sense to some people. (and vice versa)

I personally like them lined up logically and physically correct for my brain.

Manufacturers do it differently!!!!!!!!!

I have two boats and they are different. One is labled as "Port and Starboard BOW DOWN". Obviously if I press the Port Bow Down button it is actuating the starboard tab, and if I press the Starboard Bow Down button it is actuating the port tab. It is a matter of reference! :) The other boat is labled as to which TAB you are controlling......not the affect of the vessel trim.

Agree with above. I've seen them wired both ways. Whatever way works for you, go with it. It should be second nature ( so to speak).

Right switch works right side of boat, therefore working left tab.left switch right tab.

Correct, to make the stbd bow go down the port tab must be lowered. Therefore stbd switch should operate port tab.

Bennett sets them up that way for cruiser types. I just rewired mine so it made sense to me, plus I have the bennett Indicators(New Style) they work much better than the old trimdicators.
