Looking at a Ford F250 Super Duty with a V10. Anyone have one of these and what can I expect for mpg? Please advise both the good and bad of these trucks.

I've got a 2000 Supercab Long bed - V10, 4x4, 3.73 rear end. Boat + trailer weighs about 7500 pounds. I get 15 mpg highway without the boat, 8 mpg with the boat. A K&N filter and Cat-back exhaust makes a big difference in acceleration. The only negative about this truck is turning radius. You need to think ahead at the boat ramp and strip mall parking lots. I'm keeping it until Ford's four wheel steering is available.

I've got a 2002 F-250 supercab short bed, V-10, auto with the 3.73 rear end. The first 1000-1500 miles are really scary. When broken in(Finally!) I see about 14-15mpg on the highway empty, cruise set at 75mph.

In the city and commuting to and from work I get about 12mpg.

V10 in an Excursion. Just towed 10,000 lbs across the country. Power is great. I traded a F250 Diesel for it. Towing it got 7-9 mpg depending on the tempature and terrain. I average 11.5 city non-towing and the best I ever saw was 14 on the highway driving 65 or less.

Thanks for the input. I am a liitle concerned about mpg because it will be an everyday driver. But I'll feel better towing with it. Using a Ram 1500 for short tow's and ramp makes me a little nervous.

Excursion V-10 here. Never gets better than 10 around town, maybe 14-15 on the highway, tops, depending on speed.

I've got two friends that have had the V-10, one bought a new F-250 and sold it after a few months, due to the gas mileage costing him more than he had ever imagined at the peak of last summers gas price surge, but I dont know if he ever got to 2000 miles before he said enough, and sold it. My other friend has an excursion V-10 and he loves it, but this weekend while driveing from detroit to Colombus Ohio, he lost oil pressure and smoked the motor, It's at the dealer now, and they are saying it looks like an oil pump failure and covering it all under warranty at 24,000 miles. I looked at a 2001 excursion limited with the v-10 a few months ago, it had 10K on it, and exhaust and a K&N filter, I took it for a ride and I realized I need one, great power, but I'm looking for a diesel remembering my friends MPG nightmare. I drive all freeway 30 miles each way and the better the mileage the more I like it.

I've had two-
1999 F250 4x4 Crew cab SWB- nice truck, about 8.5 towing, a little better than 11.5 combined city/highway not towing.
2000 F350 4x4 Crew cab Dually SWB- a little stiffer ride, but acceptable, barely over 7 mpg towing, never broke 10 combined city/highway. A towing animal in every respect.
Very smooth engine with plenty of towing torque, but the mileage was unacceptable to me. I've seen lots of claims to better mileage with this engine, just never saw it with my trucks.
Now have an Excursion Limited with PSD- life is good.

Man I'm impressed with some of these milage numbers. I have a 2001 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 w/ V-10 3.73 gears. I average around 11mpg around town. We usually get around 12-13 highway and 9-10 when towing both cases are around the speed limit. I towed my boat behind my motorhome and my wife followed in the truck all at 55mph and the mileage in the truck was like 15mpg, but who drives 55? I have almost 2 years and 20,000 miles on the F350 and love it, nothing bad to say about it. I added a cat back exhaust and K&N air filter and noticed better acceleration but mostly it just sounds cooler!

I have a 1999 F250, V10, 4x4 crew cab, single rear wheels. I added K&N air filter and Gibson cat back exhaust. Normal mileage is 11mpg. The best I've ever seen on the highway is 14 mpg. I went with the V10 because the Diesel was too noisy for the wife.
