Thumbs up OT: Pontiac to bring back the GTO!

Check it out - 5.7 liter V-8, 6 spd, independent rear suspension, rear-wheel drive!

Read all about it: http://www.detnews.com/2002/autosins...a01-451562.htm

After we got rid of my wife's POS Grand Am a few years ago, I swore I'd never own another Pontiac, but now I'm wondering what the asking price will be... Thank you Bob Lutz...

Screw the GTO
(had an old 68 GTO)
I presently have a Ram Air TA 1998 (LS1)
and after so many long ass years of butt F*cking Michal Knights' 82 turd burglar, they went and FINALLY did it right in 1994 and trashed the old design, Then in 1998 they redid it again even BETTER than before and now they did away with the whole damn thing
WTF is wrong with them?
They make that armadillo looking turd bucket thing instead of a TRANS AM?
Now they are playing with a concept GTO?
the holden (austrailia's GM market name) is good (mad Max's car was a holden)
but WTF???
You finally build one of the nicest fastest production cars every made in history and you toss the design to build momma SUV's and that aztek armadillo thing
Pontiac has lost their minds

Now I have to get a vette if I want a GM sports car
Guess I can now get my pontiac tattoo removed!!!

no it just ticks me off that pontiac finally decided to make one wild ass ride out of the trans am and in my opinion (im sure ill hear flack over this) it is one of the nicest looking and one bad ass fast car (stock 6 spds doing 12.8's off show room floor with a intake lid and K&N filter)
Mine is an automatic with a 3700 stall converter and other mods and im running 11.7's with drag radials all day long

now they retooled the factory in Canada to make an suv
just blows my mind, end of this year when the whole firebird, camaro line is finished, no more F bodies
that will be a very sad day in the automotive world

dont understand, just dont understand it at all

My first really nice car was a '66 GTO and I loved it.

Little GTO, you're really lookin' fine
Three deuces and a four-speed and a 389
Listen to her tachin' up now, listen to her why-ee-eye-ine
C'mon and turn it on, wind it up, blow it out GTO

Wa-wa, (mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO") wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa
(mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO")

Wa-wa (mixed with "Ahhh, little GTO") wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa

You oughta see her on a road course or a quarter mile
This little modified Pon-Pon has got plenty of style
She beats the gassers and the rail jobs, really drives 'em why-ee-eye-ild
C'mon and turn it on, wind it up, blow it out GTO

MIXTURE
Gonna save all my money (turnin' it on, blowin' it out) and buy a GTO (turnin' it on,
blowin' it out)
Get a helmet and a roll bar (turnin' it on, blowin' it out) and I'll be ready to go (turnin'
it on, blowin' it out)
Take it out to Pomona (turnin' it on, blowin' it out) and let 'em know (turnin' it on,
blowin' it out), yeah, yeah
That I'm the coolest thing around
Little buddy, gonna shut you down
When I turn it on, wind it up, blow it out GTO

Wa-wa, (mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO") wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa

I had two 69 GTOs, a coupe and a convertible back in the late seventies.

The coupe had a built engine that pumped out between 400 and 500 HP. A 914-6 spun out, crashing into a ditch and a turbo carrera blew it's engine racing this car. The goat regularly ate Ferrari 308s for lunch. <ggg>

Now I drive a much loved 1996 WS6 Ram Air Formula, one of 55 Red Automatics built in 1996. This model killed BMW for about five years in a row racing in the Street Stock IMSA road race series. Can anyone explain why Pontiac NEVER mentioned this???

Now the Firebird is dead because hardly anyone wanted to pay the skyhigh insurance premiums I guess. Same reason that killed the GTOs etc. It is cheaper for Pontiac to maintain their product line in high performance cars by importing a limited number of Holdens to fullfill gear heads like me. It makes good business sense, although it is a shame the American public is not smart enough to buy great cars when they are offered!!!

Personally, As a former owner of a 67 GTO, I'd prefer they come up with another name for a vehicle and sell it based upon it's own merits and not try to piggyback off of yesteryears success. Show some originality for a change. The'll never do it justice.

Biggest problem with the Firebird/Camaro is that Ford sold twice as many Mustangs as GM did F-bodies (combined). And as Troutly noted, they can make a lot more dinero selling SUVs than they can selling Firebirds.

Now, I don't want to start a flame war, but IMHO the Firebird is butt-ugly - too many scoops/flares/geegaws for me. But, to each their own, right? Heck, I've got a friend that owns an Aztek and I regularly see Avalanches running around, so apparently someone likes them (though I can't imagine how so many blind people got driver's licenses )

I'm just glad Ford is finally waking up - the new Mach 1 Mustang is supposed to have 300+ hp.

Fbodies have had over 300 HP since 98
the 2001-2003's have 330 and it is underated
Mine out of the box had 315 rear wheel HP and engine was only supposed to have 320
Now with cam, headers, intake, catback, blah blah blah blah im pushing 440 rear wheel and my 10 bolt is NOT too happy
But running 11.7's with 2.73 gears and 28 miles to the gallon on the highway, I think my car earns its respect sitting still
Jason

PS Mach 1 huh? was in love with a friends 1970 Mach1 back in High school
Bad ass ride
