scarab 38 vs. cigarette

hi guys,

any difference of the hull, cause it looks almost the same... (i know it not the same!) but is the difference that big?

and what about overall proformance, are there any thumbs up/downs?

what about the space in the cabin, the scarab is a little bigger or?

Thomas

Just call the Scarab factory and speak with them, about their product.

Here's an honest answer for you and keep in mind, I own a 95 Top Gun.

I've spent COUNTLESS hours behind the wheel or in the passenger seat of 38 Scarabs. I worked for the local Wellcraft dealer here in town when I was a kid. It was the Scarab that started my passion for offshore powerboats.

Which Cigarette/Scarab are you looking at? Straight bottom or Stepped. I've only been in one stepped bottom Scarab and my opinion of them remains the same.

A very good friend owned a 97 Scarab with Teague 800's and 3A's that we ran the sh!t out of for about 6 years. Like I said, my boat is a 95 Cig with 525SC's and 3A's so the comparison is similar.

I found that the Scarab handled, performed and held together as well as Cigarette. In large water, medium water and flat water. It rides nice and smooth and crushed the water just as my Cig does.

The cabin is similar. The Scarab has a fridge though. But I prefer the cabin in the 90's Guns. I personally think they are one of the best cabins in any comparable size, year boat.

The Cockpit, again is similar, but again, I prefer the Top Gun cockpit. The dash layout on the Scarab is good, but the gauges they used looked cheap. They're inset into the dash and don't have rings and bezzles to give it that custom look. If you upgrade (like many do) it can look really nice though. The seats are the Mcloed electric bolsters....Not comfortable. They are thin and you sit in them awkward.

I believe the 38 Scarab and the 38 Cig weigh about the same.

I always thought Outerlimits stole styling ques from the Scarab. Look at the decks, especially the 90's Scarabs.

The thing that killed Scarab (re-sale value) is the fact they closed up shop. It was like over night the prices on them plummeted. Which is ridiculous because it's still an outstanding built boat with Merc parts that are easily repaired.

I would not second guess buying a nice Scarab for a second. Great boats. But like I mentioned above, be wary of re-sale. If you're looking to sell quick, it may be a hard sell. On the bright side, I think most 90's straight bottom Scarabs have hit the low in the market for the most part.

Of course this is all just my .02....I could be wrong.:drink:
