Taking wax off
 

It's still pretty cool here in Northern Missouri but I want to get a jump on getting the boat ready for polishing and waxing. I usually wash the boat down with a little Dawn dish liquid and water to take the wax off but since it's too cold to do that , is there anything that I can spray on and wipe off to take the wax off? That way it'll be ready when it gets a little warmer. Fantastik, Simple Green?

Yeh, Paint thinner!!! Just wait and use Dawn or her sister. Either one will work:D Anything else will just be too toxic.:eek:

Dont get paint thinner or other solvents on any stickers or decals.

Wax on ......Wax off.......just watch Mr. Miyagi and the Karate Kid a couple of times they'll showyou how. LOL
Seriously though, if you're dead set on getting the jump start on your boat prep for the year and don't want to use good ole Dawn, get yourself a good all purpose cleaner and go to town with a damp cloth. That should remove most of the old wax. Or you can use a regular non abrasive cleaner such as the stuff Meguires sells.

ppg makes a grease and wax remover that is used just before you paint that doesn't seem to be quite as strong as paint thinner and doen't dissolve the glue on masking tape. I can get the number if you want.

I remember reading in an auto magazine that detailers used corn starch to remove wax. I dont know how they use it but I have heard it many times from the classic car crowd.

I was just kidding on the lacquer thinner. :rolleyes: I hope you didn't think I was serious.:D Lets see what kind of reaction we gret from saying to use #300 wet sand paper.:eek:

300 grit paper? Why not just go to 120 grit and be done with it?
You'll never have to worry about waxing again.:D

Screw it, I'll just wait and do it the safe way. My boating fever just got the best of me.
