I was going to make some fairing putty using left over polyester resin and Microlight 410. I noticed on the can of 410 it says warning do not mix with polyester or vinylester resins. does anybody know why or what will happen.
What can be used as a filler with polyester to make a fairing putty?
Thanks
Russ

Russ,
I've used WEST extensively on my Magnum restoration. I would call the Technical Assistence phone number and pose the question to them. My guess is that there would be some type of "bonding" issue. I've called them on two ocassions and they were very helpful.
Epoxy fairing compound will bond to Polyester, Polyester fairing will not bond to Epoxy. Not sure if the same applies with vinylester.

Thanks Robert
I called the tech line. Their response was they thought the styrene in the polyester resin would adversely affect the thermoplastic based 410. West recommended using their 407 as a filler with polyester resin.
