Electrical Gremlin - Hourmeters Resetting?
Hey guys - any idea what may be causing my digital hourmeters to reset? They were fine all summer, but the last few trips out, both have reset back to "0.0" It's like the memory function is not working... lack of juice? Or a spike in voltage? Or are the gauges just shot? Thanks in advance... SM

I have no answer for you, but sounds like when you sell the boat, it'll have very low hours. Good luck

Are the batteries going dead at any point?
Also, what brand hourmeters? |
boatfast - the batteries have not went dead, although I'm starting to wonder how strong they are. I just bought the boat this past offseason and am not sure exactly how old the batteries are.
The hourmeters are from Autometer. I may have to give them a call... |
I'm sure AM can point you in the right direction. Good luck and be sure to post the culprit when you find it.

Did the same thing on my chevy truck.

Quick update... contact at Autometer said he'd never heard of such a thing. Each gauge is supposed to have a small chip that records the hour reading without needing any outside power source - so even if my batteries are weak, it shouldn't matter (that's why if you pull your batteries for the winter, the meters don't reset.) He told me to pull the gauges once boating is done and send them in. I'll keep you posted...

I have some dig meters, they have been out of a boat for over 2 years, after I read this thread I went out in the shop and hooked both meters up to batt. still the same hrs that was on them over 2 years ago, I have been waiting for the new boat to reach the hours that are on the digital ones I also have never heared of such a thing but yes when you sell the boat the hour meters will only show test time...:lolhit:
|
Interestingly enough, I have Autometer tachs with hour meters that do the exact same thing.
The good news is I never have to do maintanence because I only have a few hours on my boat:lolhit: |
Sounds like they must have a battery internal to keep memory.....and that internal battery is dead.
