Bob,

I just got back from a month vacation in Cuba and Columbia. Didn't know you were making a trip to Cuba. Here are a few pics but I have many more and better. Had a great time. Mohitos with every meal including breakfast. Give me call if you need info. (fyi, take your own toilet paper and a toilet seat would come in handy also!)

Hey Bob! this is awsome being able to watch your crossing. I just read EXPAT's blog...and chuckled a little. A trip to the Wallmart in Key West? :)

ok i have to ask and i am sure this is a dumb ? but here goes. What is it with all the old cars in Cuba, are new cars not alowed to be brought in to the island, I could see why no new Amercian cars are there but we are the only country that does not do anything with them

There is no economy in Cuba therefore no money to spend on "frills" most cars are held together with duct tape and local ingenuity.

You do see some newer small and inexpensive cars of European and Asia make but not many. I would say the main reason you don't see too many new cars of any make is very few people can afford a car period. Being basically a third world Socialist country many, if not most, people just don't have the opportunity to make the money to buy cars-or houses-or toilet seats.

Best of luck to you and your crew, I hope you are treated well on the other side.

Hi David and thanks. Enjoyed your pics and in a few hours all being well we should be on the island. Hoping to pull out of Key West harbor shortly after 10 in the morning. We are ready. I'm sure it will be a bit of a culture shock. It's late to be going shopping for toilet seats so maybe I will just take this one at the Hyatt. LOL
We are staying at the National Hotel which is as good as it gets and I'm told they have both toilet seats and paper !!

Also thanks to everyone for their well wishes. I don't know how good the internet service is over there and will post some if I can. If not, i promise a full report with pictures on my return probably Sunday. if weather is changing we could return sooner.

Wanted to let everyone know that Bob and crew have arrived safely in Havana, Cuba.
They are there and evidently were escorted by the Cuban Coast Guard.

Uh O  I hope they don't give them a hard time
