you dont want to paint behind a rubrail, you want to stay about 1/8 away from it,
the rub rail expands when it rubs the pier and if you have paint behind it it will rub off.
dont question Mitch,he really does know what his doing!

I never thought of that one. That is a good hint, not that I will be painting any boats soon.

All i am going to say is there is a very good reason Mitch is one of the top boat painters in the country

Trust me know one works harder at thier craft than Mitch

He is not the only boat painter out there but he is on the top of the heap with a few others for good reason

I have no prob with Mitch if he wants to tape everything thats fine. If the paint is coming off either it wasn't prepped correctly or your hitting the pilings pretty hard...

Not trying to start a pissing match but I do know from experience that it's just a b/s excuse...
most of the new boats that Mitch paints have the rubber rub rail with the stainless insert and they will move, your right about the stainless steel rub rails not moving but thats not what most of the new boats have .
the reason I know this is because when I had my first boat painted by mitch been in the automotive bussines for over 30 years I removed everything including the rubrail, when I dropped the boat off that was the 1st thing Mitch told me and he was right a season later the rubrail had chipped the paint, since then his done a couple of more boats for me and numerous boats for friends and we left the rub rail on and he did it his way,all I can tell you is none off them had any problems around the rubrail.

Anyways this thread is about Strip and his Mitcher T paint job,so Ill leave it at that.
