HD Camera In Boat Filming Question
I have a SONY HDR-XR200 camera ( http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665736696 )that I have taken on a lot of rides on the MTI but it seems that the camera has so many electronic image stabilization and auto focus features that it just chases itself focusing and anti vibrating on rides, making it a less than stellar video experience.
I have turned the image stabilization off which helps and this morning I messed with the auto focus and turned that off and will try that but man it is driving me crazy.
I have a hard mount to the cockpit which I could rubberize but I am not sure if it would help...
Anyone with knowledge and worthwhile suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
GL
When it is held by hand it does a good enough job;

But we went out yesterday for a ride and once the boat gets running it is just blurred to sh!t!!! ;

Your going to need to get a fixed lens. Most of the problem is from high vibrations. You can pick up a lipstick camera that records to a seperate unit like we use in our whitewater racing. Make sure you don't get a camera that has a rolling lens for example the lens is on springs or has a gyro for stablization. The camera with a stable fixed lens runs around 500.00 that includes the recording unit also. The now make them in HD and also record to memory cards.
Here is a picture of a fixed lens onboard lipstick camera. These are what we use:

Here is footage from that camera:

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was some video, it was clear and had great engine sounds. That is what Offshore Powerboat Racing needs on all the race boats.

Try VHOLDR.com small HD camera no wires.
Not a boat video but this might help give you an idea.

Well after looking at all the stuff I got this one;
http://www.vholdr.com/contourhd/helmetcam
for now!!! This is what it looks like set up in the boat, the angle is much wider we will try it on the water at the fun run on the Hudson this week end.... Maybe this afternoon if the sun pops out...
