LH vs RH drive? Why single engine has LH drive?

I'm definitely not what you folks would call boat-savvy...but isn't a RH drive the "normal" drive for a single engine boat?

Why would a single-engine boat have a LH drive?
Or am I backwards in my thinking?

The only boats I know of with a single that use left hand rotation is Fountain and Profile.

The boat I'm going to look at tomorrow (Tues) is setup for a single-engine bbc and has a left-hand TRS drive.

It's an older hull (1980), but I don't know what year the TRS is.

Formula uses LH on their 271. Testing showed slightly better handling and minor top end gain. I have no idea why. No big deal either way.

Bow lift. so they say.

I have seen a few 27-29 Fountains with a LH prop on single, one Baja 275, and just this week a Cobalt 220. All with single BBC and Bravo 1 LH.

Running it left hand helps counter the torque of the motor which sometimes makes the boat lean to one side when running.

south-paw

almost every 27-29 fountain w/single engine i have seen has a lhprop.reggie says they are faster .dont know why though.

The left hand TRS is stronger than the right hand due to the placement of the lower drive gear.
