Pva & Tooling Gel

2 Attachment(s)
Deck got another couple of coats of wax today. Pva & tooling gel were applied earlier today but this particular pva didn't like a fat coat of gel and aligatored. Waited for the gel to harden and peeled it off. Washed down the deck and sprayed the partall pva. Tooling gel is going on in a couple of thinner coats right now.

Here's a couple of pics

A nice style.
Why would you wax and PVA? Wouldnt it be one or the other?
maybe thats the cause of the gatoring.

will the transom and stringers only be cored in foam? Any ideas to put wood stringers in?

good luck!!

Thanks, Hull & deck will be fully balsa cored. High density core transom, stringers & bulkheads.

Because of it being a new plug and using a not so standard 'trial' finiish coat, I took the advise to use the PVA as added insurance to pull freely. I've used Pva on a couple of previous plugs but prefer not to use it as it does affect the finish of the mold.

No problems releasing the mold. The finish in these pics is the PVA still stuck to the gelcoat. I washed a few areas and the finish is beautiful. The whole mold needs a good wash down to remove the reat of the PVA.
