Soda Blasting
Anyone ever have a outdrive soda blasted to prep for paint? Are there any other paint stripping options that work besides sanding the paint down to the bare metal by hand.

I had mine sodablasted it worked great took about 2hrs per drive.

I did the entire bottom of my 31' Jupiter some years ago. It took all the bottom paint off and left the gel abraised and ready to prep for primer. It cost me around 800 to do the whole bottom and the people doing it took about 7 hours.

$800.... wow. I was quoted $1800-$2000 just a couple weeks ago to blast the bottom of my 29' boat. They estimated 8-10 hrs.

I had my drives sandblasted and I had the blue striping removed from the boat with sodablasting. I think the sandblaster got me $300 to have the drives and a bunch of engine parts done, the sodablaster got me $600 to remove all the blue! Here are some pics.

$800 for an ALL day job? I'm confused.....
We get around $2K for onsite media blasting (crushed glass). I can't see how his materials alone aren't in the range of $600.00. We run 25 gallons of diesel and around 5K lbs of media in a 8-9 hour day. Do the math, by the time I pay a helper, it's not even that lucrative at $2k per day....... $800? I'll just stay home. |
