Default trim pump

She (my 19.5 foot wellcraft with a 470 mercrusier I\O) is all ready for the new fishing season except for the power trim. It is a pretoline pump with two soleniods attached. Both solenoids engage and make a noise. The engine however does not trim (move up or down). Wondering what to check next. I have the repair book and everything is metering as it should. I will take the pump out tonight and clean it out. Just wondering what anyone may suggest to look for.

fuild was leaking from top connection at the pump last season. I kept having to refill. Still the unit would function up and down even with that small leak. When you say 12 volts at the pump, I assume you mean after the soleniods the wiring going directly to the pump housing?

As skatermike said make sure you have a good 12 volts at the pump. Also check your ground the source of trouble for about 90% of all electrical problems. If the power up to the selonoid is good and the ground is good then take a quarter and jump across the two larger terminals on the selooid. This should make the pump run. If not then try doing that and hitting the side top of the pump with a hammer. Sometimes the sitting all season the contacts get a little rust on them and will not work. Once it starts to work run it up and down a couple of times and it should nock off the rust. If it does not run after you give it a couple of light wacks then you need a new motor. You can have them rebuilt. If it works fine after you jump the selonoid with a quarter then you have bad selenoids. Just because they make the click noise does not mean that they are good. Try that stuff out and let us know.
