Keith Black.

That motor can make 900hp without all the goodies.

Guys I was at the show today and took tons of pics of the motor and drive combo. I will try to get pics up from my iPhone but have never done it before. Alternately I can email someone pics if u post up an email address. I was speaking with one of the engineers that worked on the project. This was a four to five year undertaking by Mercury. It's a clean sheet design from the block up - it is not big block based at all. It's a 4 valve per cylinder overhead cam setup displacing 9 litres or 556 cubic inches. The turbos are at the back top of the motor and are Garrett based but to Merc specs. Lots of carbon fiber on this motor. New transmission and new drive that has the upper similar to a nxt but a brand new lower with a longer but less tall lower. This thing is crazy and comes with a one yr warranty. Msrp is $204,000.

Pics to follow.

SHAWN DAVIS 02-12-2010 07:40 AM

204 THOUSAND?????????????????
Oh yeah thats gonna revolutionize the industry

Someone posted on another site that two complete packages could be bought for around $265K. Just a guess though.

Hmmm, we have just come through one of the worst recessions in living memory and they bring out a motor worth 4 x the average person's yearly salary??? I know this isn't a sport/hobby for the average man at this level but it seems kind of out of touch? All that aside it's an impressive looking piece of kit!

I doubt it, thats about what some 1075's go for isnt it?

LubeJobs42 02-12-2010 08:16 AM

It is expensive but if you figure out what you really spend on big power boats, it's actually not bad. $204 is retail, you can get them for less. If you break it down motors, headers, trannies and drives it's not that ridiculous. To have a year warranty and to have mercury reliabilty rather then having to spend as much time with your engine builder on retainer is worth a lot right there!

Whats the future of the number 6? What motors will be offered? 700 850 1075 and 1300 1350? Those turbos are liquid cooled? Are they stainless or regular steel?
