Which CARB Barry Grant VS Holley HP

Hey guys,
Just ready to pull the trigger on a couple of carbs for my built 496's. I am at a stand still though trying to decide on the Barry Grant 850 down leg OR Holley 950 HP.

Any input or would be helpful. Need to decide before going to the dyno next week.

Thanks,
John

PS I am leaning towards the BG

I don't have any experience with the Holley HP's, but I can say that Barry Grant's customer service and product support was excellent. My friend Mike bought one of their first generation carbs after they started using their own castings and they bent over backwards to correct issues and help him get it working properly on his application. Once working the carb was reliable an never failed (and looked cool too).

Just curious, but why are you considering going 100cfm lower on the BG?

The BG's, from what I can see really UNDER RATE cfm. I believe their 850 flows like over 950 - 1000.

getrdunn - give champion performance and have your engine specs handy. I forget offhand who does their carbs but they are all custom to your engine. Saves valuable time on the dyno. Last two engines of mine were nearly spot on from the start.

I will give them a shout. Thank you. What do they use for Carbs?

I believe Pro Systems but they can tell you more. Should come in about the same as the BG and HPs but with a custom piece.

950cfm is a lot of carb for a 496ci. An 830-850cfm should be plenty.

Better yet, try to borrow one of each and let the dyno tell you what to buy.

on most of the engines i have built at our shop ive always used nickerson carbs,on naturally aspirated and blowers.you fill out there spec sheet and 99% of the time they are right on out of the box.just another choice, wes

I hear you on this but was just a little confusssssed on the cfm ratings for carbs. Especially seeing what a 850 BG carb flows. And then seeing the Holley 950 HP uses the 650/850 base plate.
