Some interesting facts about the Tennessee - Tombigbee Waterway:
Construction was started in 1971 and completed 1985 by the Army Corps of Engineers.
It was the largest civil project ever constructed by the Army Corps of Engineers
It is used by commercial as well as recreational boaters.
It parallels the Mississippi River providing a direct route to the Gulf of Mexico from Tennessee.
It runs from the Tennessee River near Pickwick Lake 450 miles to Mobile, AL and has 12 locks.
Each lock is 110 ft X 600 ft has an 30 ft average lift except the Whitten Lock which is an 84 ft lift.
