Default Outboard Speeds

Comment:

Who is running the fastest 26 foot or greater---outboard powered boat on the East Coast?

I mean in a race/pleasure version versus a full race boat with no amenities at all.

There is a Skater with triples that was an awesome boat but it was a one off type of boat and no longer running high top end numbers---so I'm told.

GPS photos are welcome and so are photos of the boat.

It can be any class/type of motor from 2.5 Offshore to 2.5 Drags to 300X or 300XS.

[No nitrous stuff but all other performance enhancements are fine.]

Curious as to what types of speeds boaters are seeing from their platforms.

KAP

P.S. You can leave out the distant friends and there was this one time when the planets were in alignment stories----really want to hear from the boat owner if possible.

P.P.S. I have a side bet going there is probably less than 10-15 boats on the entire East Coast in the 120MPH range in a 26ft or greater hull powered by outboards.

Single 2.5 on this I ran 91.5 mph average for an official UIM speed record on Coniston Water England, the leisure version reached 64mph on the GPS with a 250 Verado

I know of 4 on Long Island and 2 in New Jersey, all 28 foot Skaters........ and your number is not far off.

Comment:

I posted on Performance Boats forums and one guy with the triple 28 Skater claims a top speed of 132MPH---that was it not many if any on the West Coast.

It seems like the hull of choice is Skater in the go fast outboard arena---not surprising.

I was hoping some other manufacturers would chime in ie...all the Doug Wright people but I would venture to guess or estimate that there is probably only two DW's currently running at all.

Thank for posting up:

Offshoresteve, tzrider, cookee and T2X---hey T2X what types of hulls are those other guys running I assume 28 Skaters.

It is really interesting that this area of boating has largely been ignored ie...larger performance boats with outboards. The majority of O/B boats are the little river rockets STV, Mirage, etc...

Not a 26 but I had an 18 foot Mirage with a stock 280, 14 1/2" 32 Merc cleaver that ran 119 on gps. It was a great driving rig. My wife was terminally nervous about the boat so I finally sold it. It was aptly named the "Nervous Mother".

Fishing I wanna hear what is out there it is usually referred to as doing your homework ie...G-2 groundwork.

I was just at DCB and they have a M-31 in the works with some HUGE power that will be debuting in the Poker Run.

I wanna hear from the Outboard crowd to see what everyone is running----Not many boats hitting the kinda numbers that will make me happy----Except for that 120MPH 28 Skater with twins which allegedly hits that number with ease.

Still waiting for the real deal outboard boat owners to chime in and blow me away with some ungodly stats.
