Speaker recommendations
 

I'm looking for some good quality 6x9 marine speakers for some cut-outs in a rear seat base. This doesn't seem to be that popular of a size anymore. I was also wondering if the component speakers, such as JL 7.7 are that much better than their coaxial 7.7? I just don't want more holes than are needed. Opinions? Thanks, Steve

Polks are the way to go. They are marine rated and sound great. One of my requirements for marine speaker is no mesh for grills. Polks always have molded plastic grills which look great and will never pop out.

I painted my plastic grills to match trim on boat.
They are by far the best 6X9's out there IMO

Do a search for JL on here... I just had a good size install done and it sounds killer.

You can go with the seperates or with the all in one 7.7.

I have 6 of the seperates in my boat with 2 12's in ported boxes up under the dash.

It rocks.

My cafe had a 6x9 & a 6.5" mounted at ankle level under the bolsters. A great spot for speakers. :lolhit: I ended up replacing them w/ Polks. I then want to add additional speakers higher up in the gunwale. Trying to decide if i just wanna stay w/ the Polk 651UM's or use JL's up there.

DC Gold. They don't have the name recognition of the other brands but are incredible speakers. Rated at 80watts rms and 300 peak, but I would say that is conservative. I'm putting over 100rms to mine. 100% waterproof and a 3 year warranty.

I don't think JL offers a 6x9 size, otherwise I'ld be very interested. I've heard a lot of good comments about them! Steve

Griff, I know that DC Gold is the old Babb and they have a good reputation but the grills are a little dated in styling. I don't want to go with billet grills, any other aftermarket grills available that would fit? So far the Polk MM's seem to be my best choice, any others worth looking at? Thanks, Steve
