[email protected] boat and expedition then she can wipe herself out with it wherever, what do I give a [email protected]..
But when some San Fran trust fund hippies ships off a KID while convincing her she can hack it doing a stunt like that.... Might has well have the two idiot parents buy a guillotine for their kid to experience and relive the French Revolution....
All those parents need is a nice kick in the face, respectfully of course, Oakland style.... Idiots.
Just watched this movie with Laura Dekker the 16 yo Dutch girl that safely completed her Circumnavigation after having to escape the Netherlands on a loophole after being tied up in the court wanting to restrict her from living her dream.
But this presentation she does after her voyage gives a better perspective of how qualified she was to do it and how driven she was to accomplish it.
I know it is sailing but watch the whole video .If half the kids out there had one tenth the drive to do something constructive as she had and it really shows it was her desire and not her parents desire to do the trip.

Old thread but older thought... in 1965 a 16 year old Robin Grahamset off sailing around the world in a 24 foot boat... trip took him like 5 years. Since 1965 radios have come a long way. In 1965 there was no GPS, no epirbs. no sat phones etc. In 45 years sail technology has grown leaps and bounds, weather forcasting has grown leaps and bounds. Even the technology of foul weather gear has grown greatly.. Her boat was nearly twice the size of his...

I have the book sitting in front of me on the bookshelf
When I was in the 4th grade i discovered the book in the small library of the recent school i was transferred to . I had it checked out for every week for 2 years.
Ultimately Robin moved to the mountains with his wife Patti and newborn and later kind of went off his rocker for a little bit but soon got his head back together;
A thread with some info on Robin http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...am-7452-2.html
A follow up book of his though i never have read it
