Only Norway and Brazil have the remotely operated shutoff valve mandated. This is an addition to the backup system that obviously didn't work in the Gulf. I am from Norway but live in Tampa, more than a few of my friends in Norway have contacted me in disbelief. Right now I am just hoping the oil never reach the shores and ruin our beatiful coastline. Finacially I am glad I have my investment in Statoil...

That's what I read too and still 5K barrels a day pouring out.. Not good at all.

No one knows if there was a BOP or not. Big Oil lobbied the Oil Administration to let them slide on that safety item because it was "too expensive"($500,000). Doesn't sound so expensive now does it...
