Verado 300 and 325HP to debut in Miami
This news has been cirulating on some other sites. The 300 will be a regular production model. The 325 will come from Mercury Racing division.
Also, Yamaha, not to be outdone, will display a 350hp V8 outboard with a duo-prop. So they say....
Can anyone confirm this info? Please tell me Merc has a 350 hidden up thier sleeve.....
Get ready to see quad 350's on the backs of Midnights, Fountains, Intrepids and all the other builders who are jumping into the 38-40' CC market. SeaVee's got one now. Jupiter.... I remember when 33' was a big as you could get. That's now small by comparison.
Exciting times ahead in the outboard market!!!

If Merc racing does come out with a "325 hp" Verado it will most likely be putting out at least 357.5 hp at the prop if they continue where the left off with the 300x. The 300x was rated at 300 but they didn't leave the factory if they dynoed less than 330hp.

The one company who's still playing with 2-stroke power is Bombardier. Expect a 300hp+ Etec out of them before too long.
This is just the beginning of the 'over 300 hp wars'. No doubt we'll be seeing that 400hp motor within 2 to 3 years.

My local Yamaha dealer just got back from thier sales meeting 2 weeks ago. He said the next big V8 outboard was going to be 400HP and available starting in the 2008 model year, which for Yamaha begins on July 1st. He also said this thing is going to HEAVY and that older boats would have to reinforce thier transom to retrofit it. Just what I heard. Can't wait for the show.

I have 3- 275 Verado's on the back of my 38TE Fountain. I have 115 hrs on them and they have been perfect engines. They do not eat oil and are excellent on fuel as long as you keep the rpms below 4500.
The Verado system is what I really like the most. I can steer the boat (all 3 engines) with a finger, no smoke or smell, and they are super quiet. Flushing is a breeze since you do not have to crank them up or tilit them to reach the flush port. As a matter of fact I can talk on my cell and cary on a clear conversation with my wife with on the boat. You can't even hear all 3 of them idledown my canal.
I have heard of some boats with lowers going out and one guy from my Fountain dealer has gone through several. He runs WOT through any and everything and never let's off. He basically races the boat everywhere so I can see how things will break.

I like the idea of high-powered outboards, but weight is going to be an issue if those 4-stroke outboards keep getting bigger. 624 lbs is already incredible for the 250 Verado, can't imagine much more than that! The 2-strokes like the E-tec have the obvious advantage here, just hope they aren't phased out in the future.
