How much speed gain after engines are broken in?

"Old Wives Tale". Once properly dialed in an engines performance begins to degrade, not improve with time. It's a slow death with the well built motor and an untimely and expensive death with the poorly built motor.

Once I got mine broken and dialed in I picked up five mph on the gps and have not even pulled one valve cover off in three years off running hard, can you say, Spyder Prep Racing Engines.:)

Hey Ike thats what I would like to see. My dealer took the boat out to make sure everything was ok before delivery. He saw 77.6 MPH on GPS, I'm hopeing I can get it over 80.

I picked up 3-5 mph on my 28' Powerquest with a 502 Mag. How much was due to break-in and how much to better driving I can't say - I will say that the motor was MUCH more responsive in the mid-range once she had 20 or so hours on her. And contrary to what I had heard, the 502 never burned a drop of oil in the 2 years I owned the boat. Broke her in according the Merc manual and it worked for me.
