Well said Chris.

It was previously overpriced by other brokers and my friend owns it now....long story... Anyway, he's a multi-boat owner and is looking to sell the boat for market value, it's located here in NJ.

Anyone have any ideas why it's not selling? The brand-new equipment alone is worth the price of the boat.

Just FYI, the brokers listing the boat don't have contracts per-se and the listing price is not what it is being offered for.....If anyone has any questions please contact me directly.

Sounds like you answered your own question. Dealers overpricing it misleads people on what the real price is. Try listing it for the real price. Buyers can't read your mind.

5th wheel trailer - not sure its too desirable
Its been for sale forever!!! Public might think there is a underlying reason its sitting for the past two years in the classifieds.
PRICE listed!!! I know all the other 42 T/S are slight differences in boat or power but the price listed is about 100k more than a few others. Yes this has bigger power but its not "Mercury". Cobra has a good reputation but so many people I know don't want to steer away from Mercury due to public perception...i.e. resale value. On the West Coast, Cobra is almost a unknown...harder to sell it here unlike a Mercury or Teague boat. The same rules probably apply on the east coast but reversed.

Hits the nail on the head. Ya can't ask insane pricing and expect people to respond. Simple as that. List the boat at ( or close to) real pricing and watch the action increase. And BTW, I believe that not listing a price is a negative when it comes to listing.

Darrell.

Frank ----Where is the boat listed?

Panther 08-18-2010 06:20 PM

Thanks for the info guys, I shared it all with the new owner.

He also got a phone call as a result of this thread. Interesting...

Hopefully with the suggestions I can get things moving in the right direction for him. Keep em coming!

I have an idea what he needs out of it but I'm not sure where the asking price should start. That's part of what we're trying to find out. By comparison the only boat that I see that's remotely close to this one has a set of Sterlings with 120 hours on them, granted it's a beautiful boat! Also trying to make sure it's apples to apples and what the market will really bear?

I just looked at the current ad in the classifieds and its listed at $349,000. If you look down, few ads below it, there is a 46 with 1200 Cobra's for $329,000. That would make me think...Spend less money and get a longer boat. Realistically, I would think somewhere close to an asking price of $289,000 would be a lot closer to the truth on that particular boat, with a $260-$270,000 bottom. What do you think?

2004 42' Cigarette Tiger.....6yrs old. 42 Tiger is not popular vs. the 38 or 39 Top Guns. In OSO Classfieds for $349k.

2006-2007 Outerlimits 42's are being sold with Merc 850's & 1075's now for $250 - $300k.

I would say based on that the boat is a $200 - $225k boat in today's market.
