Tragic news...
Please extend my condolences to the family and friends. The heros who jumped aboard the boat and rescued Frank are to be commended.

Wow , I can not believe that I am reading this. I live on the gulf coast where Don bought the boat from. My partner in business was in negotiations to buy the same boat but dragging his feet. SOmehow or another Don and I made contact ,and I shared what I and my partner from work had learned about it , back and forth while he was on his way down to purchase it. And spoke to him several times on his ride home. He seemed like one of the nicest guys anyone could meet. My friend and I still talk about how dumb he was for not purchasing the boat before Don did .... but always agreed it went to one hell of a standup guy. Godspeed Don, wish I could have spoken to you more.

He sold me my Stingray. Super nice guy. I had just emailed him not to long ago about ordering a decal that I trashed...

My heart goes out to him, his family, and his mechanic, who must be feeling aweful about everything.

You took the words out of my mouth.

I saw him pass just before the crash

I own a house on Seneca lake just north of Starkey point. On saturday I was out on my deck overlooking the lake when I saw his boat fly by. I was on the phone with my neighbor at the time and she commented to me about how fast he was going. A second later we heard the motor accelerate even more. The crash occured about a 1/4 mile from my house.

My only experience with Don happened a week ago Tuesday. I had just gotten my boat on Monday and I had the boat out Monday and Tuesday. On one of my trips south Don blew by me like I was standing still. I gave him a big thumbs up, but I doubt he saw me for the instant we were next to each other.

From what I have been told it looks like there was a mechanical malfunction that caused the boat to turn suddenly and it flipped over and landed right side up again. It then circled slowly for a while.

I hope that we can all take some comfort in knowing that he died while doing what he loved to do, and the accident happened so fast that he probably didn't know what happened at all.
