Default 30 Malestrom Cat Questions

I have been pondering on this 30ft wood cat in the Misc Cat section

Before I go to Canada to take a look. I am curious.

Does anyone on this site have seat time or know about this wood cat?

I'm 55. Had many 17-30ft OB go fasts. Have fast OB Cat experience. 115-120mph

I have a pair of 2.4 Mercs, 225 Promaxes or mild 2.5's I could put on this boat. It would be used as a lake racer pleasure boat.

Wondering how it will drive? Lope zone. When it packs air, Will it fly over 3's?. Does it have a history? If you slow down under 40 to turn it, will it hook and or roll in a turn?

If anyone knows, I would appreciate your feed back.

If I'm not mistaken that is the "S" class world champion from the lates 80's. That's when they ran 200hp outboards and it was a rough racing and she was able to beat the then dominate 24 Skaters because of course she was 30' long.

I remember the boat at Malestrom, don't think anything bad about it? It was slow because of the power, the fiberglass pleasure 30' had triple 200's on them.

Nicky Cutro of "Boardwalk" fame ran one in the Key West worlds('87 or '88) while his Shadow cat was being fixed after the fire out in Califormia. It was on loan and had a pair of big OMC's on the back. This was supposed to be OMC's big effort to get into offshore racing. Well their service was terrible and Nicky was pretty much on his own for that week. One race he came back dragging one of the big outboards off the back. I think an engine mount broke. I don't really remember him telling me anything in particular about the boat though.

I was with Nicky for a week at the Malestrom factory rigging & testing the boat for the Worlds. To make a long story short the boat had two V8 Evenrudes (not sure of spelling) run close too 100 mph. We ran a differant 30 Malestrom the following year which was the old ACR Srprit boat. with two 2.4's. Nice ride in a bay or lake but not in the Ocean.
