Default why older style Mercruiser motor in 2008 boat

Hi guys,

Any reason why this newer boat would have older style mercruiser engine? I only see these in the really older boats. Maybe they still sell this style?

How does this motor compare to the MAG's?

Thanks for the help guys!

Cheers!

Maybe a re-power or was a previous repo and when the bank got it it had no engine. There was a 07 35 Fountain at national that had 454s in it a while back. You can guess that the owner new it was getting repoed and yanked the new engines out and put in old ones.

Magic had a ton (like 60+) hulls that were sold without power when they got into a jam. Boats were complete minus power so this must have been one of them.

Builders will build anything with no power so the end buyer can install their own if desired. Sunsation just finished a 2010 36 XRT for a dealer that installed low hour 575's, dealer wanted it as a demo boat. It is being sold as is or with brand new Merc power (for more money).

This is most likely one of the LBYS boats taken after Magic went out of business.

Well, the 502 is certainly the best Mercruiser (non-blue) motor they could have installed!

+1 I would take that 502mag over a 496 anyday. Those are great motors.

If you finance a running/complete boat, the bank can file charges if it is not a running/complete boat when repo'd.

You can pull the 525 and put in the 502 and make 25k off your repo. Gotta love it

If you finance it the docs will have serial numbers and hp numbers for the motors so you can't just go repower it with a cheap take outs.

It is up to the bank to decide how far they want to push the issue. Most times banks have no idea what the power is, was, or what it is worth. A 502 is a 502 to them. People do the power switch all the time before a repo. Very common.
