Assistance ID'ing a cam...?
Good morning, we are right in the middle of a rebuild on my 1996 Mercruiser 454 Mag MPI and having some trouble identifying the cam.
The number on the end of the cam is 16226137 We believe the cam to be the original factory cam but measuring it does not marry up to the listed Mercruiser specs...? Any ideas? Thank you. PS. What my builder has measured is this: Lobe seperation 115 duration @ 6000 tapet lift 286 duration @ 5000 225 int/exh lobe lift 283 What should the intake center line be? I am a moron when it comes to this type of thing and just relaying info to my builder so I hope this makes sense..... |
Is it a flat tappet or rolller cam????

We "think" we have figured out what it is but double checking, I have to send my ECM away to get re-programed so I want to make sure I give them the correct info.....does this sound right? Part #16226137 Melling 224 @.05 lifter rise 284 lobe lift 483 valve lift 115 1/2 lobe seperation making 111 center line? |
The specs are correct for a 454/502mag mpi cam. The GM part# is 12551622.
The only other numbers I have are 109 ATDC(intake) and 122 BTDC(exhaust). These are out of Dennis Moore's BBC book. |
