how dose one become certified to survey boats?
just thinking it would be a nice way to make some cash

NAMS www.namsglobal.org or SAMS www.marinesurvey.org are the 2 most credible certifications and 90% of banks want to see either of those accredidations on the surveys of boats they finance.
To be come certified takes alot of time and quite a bit of $$$$ to become certified. There is a tremendous amout of technical knowledge needed to become a surveyor. Otherwise every Tom, Dick and Harry would be doing it. |

If the survey report you receive is not at least 15-20 pages of detailed information, photos & hull rubbing you are getting a 1/2 azz survey. See this example: http://www.allinson.com/Gemini.pdf |

He did a great job documentation wise and pictures were awsome, 20 plus page survey. But must of had no idea how to sound any stringers, let alone use a moisture meter...
