How do you track fuel consumption if you don"t have vesselview, just a GPS? Just fill the tank and miles traveled vs. fuel burned?

Sort of. Fill a 400 gal tank and go 400 miles from Key West to Cancun and needle shows no fuel so assume 1 mile per gallon. LOL That is the crude way to do it I guess. With the Yanmars the computers show fuel flow per motor so we were constantly watching our consumption to make sure we were trimmed to give us 1 MPG or we would be in trouble. Then hope the computer is accurate.

i just log all miles i run the boat and keep track of all fuel i run through in a season. Once in a while i will do single tank readings. Fill boat up and run the weekend keeping track of miles on gps then fill boat and note what it took to top it off, miles vs. fuel burned. I have Navman flow scans on the Scarab but dont think they work so well so i track manually.

does it really matter we are going to do it regardless i just go to the gas station about once a weekend i trailer mine so i just go to speedway since it is about .50 a gallon cheaper on land

I can easily burn a tank in a day (150 gallons). Could actually do it in a little over 2 hours. I try and make the tank last in terms of time 2 weekends.

I like to keep track of fuel usage more for the technical aspect rather than financial.

Fuel consumption is a good indicator on how well your rig is running. Also, I pay little attention to my gas gauge, I rely more on my "normal" GPH usage to determine how much fuel I have left. When I fill up I usually know within a few gallons how much she will take.

My 25 Daytona / 900hp blower motor gets just around 1.2 mpg crusin at 4000 at 78mph. WOT it gets about .8mpg. at 6000 at 112 to 114mph.
