Default Hey all

Hey all - Da new guy here.

Its been a long time on the shore and I am about ready to hit the waters again. Curious to get some input from other people who may have more time behind the throttles than I.

I have a chance to pick up a late 89 Baja Force 320, 89 Donzi Z33, 84 Scarab 34', Christ Craft 312 Stinger or an IMP X 310 - all are the same price lets say. Is there any one that stands out as a hell no! or other issues - fiberglass fuel tanks, hull issues or other bad ju ju?

Anyones input is greatly appreciated. Not looking for the fastest boat but one that I wouldn't have to be worried about any BIG issues.

All older boats need a marine survey to check for rot and moisture.

I've never liked IMPs. Late 80's Bajas are allegedly worse for rot than mid-80's Bajas. I'm not a fan of the Chris Craft Stinger, but some on here will disagree. If the 34' Scarab is a Scarab III, it's more of a cruiser than a go-fast. It might be the right option for you, just depends what you want it for.

Personally I like the Donzi the best out of that bunch, and I own a '85 320 Force Baja...

the boat will be more of an intercoastal runner for the wife and I with perhaps a run to the Bahamas (in a group) or a run from Palm beach to the Keys - is I feel brave enough. So it is more for pleasure with no racing in mind - not to say I would try it with someone for fun.

I have heard about the rot which is a concern of mine also and I agree the would be a survey done for my own protection.

Does anyone know if the Donzi had fiberglass tanks back then? I googled the heck out of it last night but couldn't find that answer.

Rot in inevitable on just about every one of those boats. You should be able to find one that has atleast had a new transom.

Personally I like the scarab out of the choices.
