Last summer I got up early on Friday morning to change my oil, filters and drive lube before trailering up for the jammin' on the James run. It turned into a nightmare worse than what you are showing here. Sheered the strap wrench right off, broke the handle off a screwdriver I was using as a punch through, etc....

I am still not sure how it happened because I ALWAYS use some oil, and I never do more than hand tight plus a quarter turn.... I honestly didn't think I was going to make the poker run at that point....

Large Channellock pliers or one of these.

Those are pretty cool...

Part of my problem was the lack of room to work. The fuel seperators are located on the center stringer right up against the motor. It was next to impossible to get enough leverage on anything donw there. Had the whole thing up and out in about 5 minutes. Still a major PITA after I spent god knows how long dicking around with it before I yanked the whole thing.

I feel your pain. Changing the filter with the engine/oil warmed versus a cold engine can make a big difference in easing filter removal.

those will work perfectly thanks steve1...just remember to grasp the filter on the rim closest to the housing or you will collapse the filter and tare off the outer shell...unfortunately this is from experience
