The 7D retails at most places for $1699.99, for the Body only version, and $1999.99 for the 7D & 18-135 Lens. If you look to Flea-bay as a reference, then you will see all the various kits that Frank is referring to, that I will also suggest avoiding at all cost'.

Retailers to buy from: B&H Photo or Adorama in NYC, Penn Camera in DC, Roberts Imaging in Indianapolis, Murphy's Camera here in Louisville, Samy's in California, or any of the various Calumet Photo locations. Personally, though I have purchased from B&H, Adorama, Roberts, Murphy's & Calumet, I prefer to work with Roberts. Their pricing is as good as B&H, if not better. Oh yeah, you can buy from Best Buy also. But you will pay through the nose for lenses, flashes, and accessories.

He's not a traitor , he decided to choose the Light Side, instead of staying with the Dark Side.

Do you mean High ISO? If you are working in low light, then I would suggest you look to the 5D Mark II, instead of the 7D. The 5D will go to 25600 if absolutely necessary, though I would avoid it at all cost; looks like 3200 on the 40D, however, 12800 is perfectly usable. Whereas 12800 on the 7D is not so usable. Also the 7D does not do as good of a job, with noise control at the higher ISO's as the 5DII does.

From a budget standpoint, IF your looking to save money, you can buy 5DII's on the used market, from Photographers' that are selling for around $2K, or the 7D for around $1200. Reference: Fred Miranda Buy & Sell Board (Where I've bought most of my current gear):

DO NOT buy a kit with stuff that you will never use and do not want (cheap bags, cheap filters, off brand lenses, tripods, cleaning kits, and other junk). Know what you are paying for.

Talk to the 'pros' here on OSO, Jeff, Jay, Pete, James and a few others, if you have specific questions.
Cheap stuff does not last. Photography is just like Boating. You get what you pay for. You don't necessarily need to buy the Best/ Most Expensive, but buying the Better Quality stuff, will last much longer than trying to save a few $$$, and going cheap in the beginning.

This statement hits the nail on the head. Research & References are your Best Friend. The following offer is open to anyone; If anyone needs help, suggestions, input/ feedback, or anything else, please shoot me an email anytime. While I do not know everything, I do have many years of knowledge (plus I spent 3+ yrs in Electronic Retail Sales), that I am more than willing to share, with anyone that may have a question about photography, lighting, or equipment (both camera & computer wise).

Ha!!!! Guess he went with second best!

That fat ba$tard Santa came to my house last week too! He brought the new Nikon D7000 body, the AF-S Nikkor 18-200mm 3.5-5.6 GII VRII, the Nikon Speedlight SB-700 flash, dual 32GB SCHC memory cards, and shoved into a Flipside 200 camera backpack.

I had to charge the battery.
