Mercury Racing Scorpion 377?
How much HP does this engine make? What do you guys think about it? Would you buy a boat with these for power? How reliable are they? Do they need more maintenance than say a 496 MagHO? If I remember corectly they need to run on 93 octance fuel, does the fuel with ethonol effect these? I'm looking at a 30' boat with twin 2001 377 Scorpions. Thanks for any insight.

I would check the manual re: ethanol. Most boats can't tolerate ethanol because of its propensity for water absorption -- which creates sludge in the tank.

I have a Hallett 270T with twin 377 Mercury Racing Scorpions.
I have only had the boat for a short time, but so far I am very pleased with them. They seem to be very easy on fuel consumption and run very smoothly. They have Imco aluminum exhaust headers which I am sure adds some performance. This boat performs almost identically in speed vs rpm to the Fountain 35 lightning that I used to have that had twin HP500EFI engines, only I use less gas now.

I have a pair of the scorpions in a 30 footer. They have around 210-215 hours on them. Only issue I have had mechanically is a broken rocker stud. It happened at about 190 hours. I was pleased with the components on and in the heads. All around, very good engines so far.
I guess my only grip with them is the soot from the exhaust. It is a PITA to keep the upholstery on the aft edge of the sunpad and the transom clean.
Anyone on here have any experience with getting the ECMs reprogrammed? Who has done what for power adders?
