That has been beat to death here a couple times but my take is simple in-line has more main bearings per cylinder than a V-8. The rod bearings can usually be larger on an in-line as well because on a V you have to offset something to increase the width of the bearing either the rod in the piston or the rod on the journal, both are not as good as centered as in an in-line.
For applications like we're talking about here a CC for pleasure applications that will not be a high hours application the V gives more room, 2 extra cylinders for a shorter space, that adds Hp. Like I said and asked before what is acceptable diesel life - do you measure it in years or hours? I think performance diesels engines need to last for 10 years to be truely great engines, at 200 hrs a year which is allot for most that is 2,000 hrs. If there was at least a 500 hp motor that lasted 2000 hours I think that would be a huge seller. |
Terry,
Were you guys impressed with the performance numbers with this package??? Saw the photo on FB and it looks BAD A$$!!!! |
