In our gensets if don't get at least 10,000 hours between overhauls it's a junker. You use a pleasure boat 200 hrs a year is a lot so is 5 years good, than 1,000 hrs is acceptable between overhauls would be acceptable.

i agree their stretching it out a little...only so many ponies you can get and stay reliable. kinda reminds me of the duramax thread. habanajoe...whats your take on v-8 versus an in line 6????(if this hasn't been discussed before)

For applications like we're talking about here a CC for pleasure applications that will not be a high hours application the V gives more room, 2 extra cylinders for a shorter space, that adds Hp. Like I said and asked before what is acceptable diesel life - do you measure it in years or hours? I think performance diesels engines need to last for 10 years to be truely great engines, at 200 hrs a year which is allot for most that is 2,000 hrs.
