Checking Oil Temp W/Infrared Temp Gun

I'm looking at this tool here: http://www.arizonatools.com/best-sellers/detail/RAYMT4& If I aim this at my oil filter after a hard run will it give an accurate reading of my oil temperature? The filter gets pretty hot sometimes; Not sizzling, but too hot to hold your hand on.

I have a temp gun that we keep in the boat. It is cool to see the different temps of things......blowers, dry sump tank, trannys, etc.

Oil temp? I'm not sure how accurate it would be. Why not just a gauge? :lolhit:

Because these are more fun to play with

OK, I will order one. I don't think I need a gauge but would like to know what the temp is when the filter gets hot.

temps

I carry one in my truck and shoot bearing and tire temps on any trailer I pull, whenever I stop for fuel. Also if you get one that shoots higher temps they are valuable for troubleshooting and engine tuning. I shoot cylinder temps at exh port, on cars motorcycles and even my R/C cars, and when drag racing after packing ice on intake and radiator you can cool to a consistent temp for more consistent times, I could keep going but you get the idea. excellent tool

They are very handy for a lot of things. We bought some blinds for our front window because of the temp diff. Made a 12* difference. But not why I posted.
The gun I have has two lasers.. you bring the gun closer to the object and the two dots converge. That gives you a .5" circle of area the gun reads. The distance from the object will affect the reading. Just an FYI

Sounds like a fun toy. Can't wait to get it!

I usually feel each trailer hub with my hand when stopped on longer hauls. I carry a complete hub assembly and wheel/tire.
