jimkid i used iMovie to do my editing...it came with my Mac Mini. There are some other programs out there that are probably better but this one works pretty well for some quick edits. I have so much footage with my GoPro i could edit videos for weeks! haha

Rethinking this idea. Whats the point in paying $50 for a battery and charger? The charging is no different than if you were to plug in your computer. Its actually a complete waste unless you want it on for over 7.5 hours. That would take almost 66gigs on 1080p. Allow me to explain. 1 battery - 2.5 hours. Start off with two batteries and the charger. Use 1 battery up (2.5hours, 22.14gigs), use the 2nd battery while first is charging (5hours, 44.28 gigs), use the recharged battery (7.5 hours, 66.42gigs). Why not just spend $20 and get another battery?

Total set up:
$350 for the camera (shipped and taxed)
$65 for battery back (shipped and taxed)
$117 for LCD screen (shipped and taxed)
$140 for 64g Class 4 SD card (shipped and taxed) http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Secure.../dp/B003FVG3PC
$670 total for a freakin camera. Sorry to say this, though the camera takes good video....... the company is a complete rip off. I would advise ANYONE and EVERYONE to stay away from this brand. For Christ sake, they charge you for fog inserts because you couldn't use the camera for more than 10 minutes without the thing clouding up. They make you buy every little thing seperatley. Dollar for dollar, I'd say this is the worste valued camera on the market. And despite all this crap, I have to hand over another $20 so my $625 camera can operate without fogging up. Proof.

any other mp4 movie editors out there? i have a vid that is just a tad too big for youtube that i want to edit or split into two parts. i also race hare scrambles (1.5-2 hour long dirtbike race in the woods) and that footage would have to be split up.
check out some of my vids on youtube. search panicrev613

i'm pretty sure the older version of windows movie maker will support MP4 or look into Adobe's video editing software.

When you say "too big" do you mean size of file or length of play-?

Without image stabilization per scene long races are considerably less watchable. all the glamor footage has been stabilised.

The video editing "world kind" of lays out like this.

6. a bunch more of weird stuff that no one uses.....(matrox, little tiny apps, free stuff etc)
5. Then you have hybrid weird stuff like the Sony Vegas
4. The adobe stuff is the low end of the "good" but you need to buy all the suites if you really want to design cool things
3. Apples "pro" stuff has great flexibility but is slow, (same applies to their suites)
( I-movie is very easy to use.)

Apple stuff mixed with adobes is very powerful but you have to move stuff around which is tedious & the processing is dog slow.

The in the big boy world you move to ----

2. Avid- with hardware accelerated stuff and the very powerful DS systems

1. Autodesk- This is the "skater" of the editing world.
Autodesk Smoke advanced running on Linux- nothing is is faster more capable <or more expensive>
This is 60K - 129K for the license only and standard hardware for this package will run around 50K

A regular guy that does has to process high res media for a living that needs real throuput and pro capabilities on a budget can go with smoke on the mac

This license is 15K run it on your mac with some dedicated cards

Yep - Ebay is your friend. I am looking at one as well. They have some combo kits with 32 and 64 meg cards. I would assume 32meg would be a nice start.

So it looks like this new Go Pro I heard about is really an add on screen? It sounds like some don't like it. What other cameras work well?

LaughingCat 03-21-2011 07:11 AM

I sure there are better cameras our there. But for the price and ease of use, you cant beat teh GoPro. Used it skiing in February,Cape Coral Poker run two weeks ago, boating yesterday. And when the water warms up. it'll be underwater with my kids or scuba diving (case is good for up to 180 feet).

It shoots full 1080 HD, time lapse and triple shot or timer. With the latest software upgrade, you can do 1-frame/second time lapse. Tried it yesterday and works awesome.

Some may complain about the price when you add all the toys and gadgets, but that's the price you pay for the cool stuff.

I downloaded Cyberlink Director 9 for editing. It seems like it will be easy once I take some tutorials. It can do anything. I just ordered a new, top of the line, Sony Vaio to run it as my business laptop is not powerful enough.

I think I've found a new hobby.
