the teardown to see if the motor was leagal challenge--i would rather see the motors pulled and dynoed---i have heard alot of hp500 motors--those sound a little different---

You are right it was a very sporting challenge but who was gonna be the mediator? Someone that is impartial to both sides of the coin. I guess money talks and BULL**** walks. Mr. Threadstarter did not want to play.

Here is an Excerpt from the SBI Rule book ? Now 2 of these Engines with parameters Specked out below are going to push an 11-12 Meter Vee hull @100 MPH LMAO Now that my friend requires a giant leap of Imagination Using only Line 11 of 13.8.2 ! A casual glance at the Boats prop size Verses the top Speed Should give a Hint oops better remark the props.
MANUFACTURERS CLASS II
1. Monohull only with a minimum overall length of 30
2. Twin engine configuration (staggered engine installation is permitted)
13.8.2 COMPETITION ENGINE CRITERIA
1. Engine must be the same specifications of a MerCruiser 502 CID / 500 HP and MerCruiser
HP500 EFI Bravo Stern Drive is the basis for F1and F2 class, also BMAX and IMCO Drives
are acceptable.
2. The complete engine package must remain as originally produced by the Manufacturer.
3. All engine rebuilds must be preformed using the procedures and original equipment parts
designed for the HP500 as outlined in the MerCruiser service manual part number 90-
848294 and 90-840283.
4. Updating and backdating is not allowed.
5. Maximum allowed piston diameter is .030 over original piston diameter. In this case
maximum displacement can not exceed 509 CID.
6. All factory ground surfaces must remain as originally produced with no alterations.
7. All Electronic Control Modules (ECM) must remain original with NO modifications. The ECM
will control all functions of the HP500 EFI engine.
8. Maximum compression ratio is 8.9:1.
9. Exhaust system will be Mercury Bravo or TRS style. All water must enter the exhaust
stream more than 1.5 from the outlet end pipe.
10. Only the originally produced gear ratios will be allowed.
11. Maximum allowable RPM will be 5400rpm for the HP500 engine. The limiter must be
located in the engine compartment.
12. All props must be produced from a casting. No billet or forged props are allowed.
13. The Mercury ITS drives will be allowed for the racing year 2002 as originally manufactured
and supplied with NO changes. No other lower units will be allowed with this drive except
the one offered as standard equipment. No speed master drives will be allowed.

How many people here have been told by a few SBI F-2 racers (within the last 12-18 months & don't mention names) that they needed to "bump up their engines" to even try and stay close to the "cheaters" in F-2? I know quite a few and no it is not "hear say." It came from the horses mouths.
I even know of a local 'L' class boat that got walked by one of the F-2 boats and this "L" class boat has 750hp a side!
