Advice on what to buy
I decided I want to get into boating this summer, originally was thinking of a jet boat until I started doing some research, I think an offshore style makes more sense. Most of the models I came across were Baja Outlaw 20 and the Baja Hammer. I'm 24 and don't really want to spend more then 20k, but I want something that I can have a blast in and not spend all my time trying to fix problems that may arise. I know the Outlaw doesn't have a cabin, I would like at least something I could sleep in like the Hammer has if not more. I spent most of the day trying to familiarize myself with makes/models and haven't gotten very far. What do you guys suggest?

if your looking at outlaw 20's and hammers also look at scarab 22' and velocity 22'. checkmate and stingray also have some nice boats around that size that can be gotten for a good price. do some reading on what some previous owners have to say about baja 20'

26 Sonic, 25 Active thunder, the Pantera, Some older Wellcraft Nova's are nice. You are 24 and most likely want to take girls out on the boat. They want a real toilet and a place to lay out.

Depends if you and OB guy or a BBC guy. I have a 24 Carerra SS7M full cabin with twin 200 O/B's runs 73 for under 12K.
If your a BBC guy and looking for arouns the 22 size. Check out the Chris Chraft Stinger I had one awsome and has a small enclosed cuddy cabin. There is a lot out there in that size for the money keep you eyes open and throw some posts here everyone will be happy to help. Plus your in CT> great bunch of guys plus CPBA. -Mike |
also take into consideration the water you will be boating in. DONT buy something with a crazy motor in it if you want a turn-key boat to have fun on. if your gonna be in much for water id advise against the small bajas and scarabs. shallow hull, sit down bolsters, pad bottom, rough ride, "cabin" is nothing more than a chunk of padding under the bow. and buy big enough that your not gonna grow out of in the first year like i did.
READ THIS...a ton of useful information here http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...-you-knew.html |

how about a Baja 272 27' and are great boats for the money, you can get one for $20k
|
I loved my 272 was a great boat and trouble free. Very little to pop up and cause problems. Solid ride. I got a 98 for 15k two years ago at auction. I used it as a family boat but ended up using it all the time. The chicks digged cus it looked fast (: Learn on it and then step up and get more speed if you want. Doubt you will ever get anything more user friendly. my 2cents.
