Default Help -- Marine Insurance(Again)...

Hey Folks,

I know this has been covered a million times already so I appologize in advance for the repetition.

I did a search for insurance threads and sifted through the responses but came up short...
--I looked at Total Dollar but they won't insure anything under 26'
--I contacted BlackAdar but they won't touch anything under 30'
--I contacted NBOA but they won't insure me yet because of my age

I'm looking to possibly get a better deal than what I have right now without shortchanging myself with claims service. I'm currently with BOAT-U.S. and I am happy with the coverage, but their rates are a bit more than others -- I know there has to be something out there with better rates.

Additionally, I'd prefer to stick to dedicated Marine insurers and not some blanket company(like the major auto and home insurers--Allstate, State Farm, etc) if possible.

Is there anything out there you guys know of.
My current Boat-U.S. Policy runs $1300.00 per year.

Thanks in advance!!!

E-mail Sy anyway, and explain your situation. Maybe he can recommend someone else? He's that type of guy. [email protected]

I feel for your situation. It's kina like the 16-year old who wants a red Z-28 as his first car. Talk about "profiling." I wish I could help you out.

Daze,
I had the exact same problem you are having and ended up going with National Marine Underwriters. I have not had to make a claim so far, so I cannot comment on their claims service, but they have been very helpful on the phone, and there rates are awsome!

You should check them out!

Thanks everyone so much for the responses. I see I have some work to do during lunch today and shop around...Keep 'em comin' The more options, the better right?

Risk,
I contacted blackadar through their website and got an e-mail response stating:
"Thank you for your interest in our insurance program. Unfortunately, our current underwriting guidelines prohibit us from insuring any boat under 30' in length. Hopefully this will change, and we'll be able to assist you in the future."

Hey Baja Daze,

I feel your pain, I just got my renewal notice from allstate this week. Up to $1890 for the year from $1500, I though these things depreciate?? My friend just got a good rate from Nationwide or national marine underwriters, or something, I'll call him and find out who and get a # for you and edit this post with it. I think I need to call them too.

Try State Farm, they have awsome rates, but as I've never put a claim in, I can't speak for their service.

Nick just buy the bigger Baja you wanted and you won't have to worry about insurance.
